Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons and Associated Activities on 2nd June 2022

Queen's Platinum Jubilee

PRESS RELEASE

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons and Associated Activities on 2nd June 2022

Stone Town Council has announced plans to light a Beacon for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on the evening of Thursday 2 June 2022.

The Beacon will be lit at St Michael and St Wulfad’s Church, Stone, at 9:45pm on 2nd June 2022. It is one of thousands being lit in the UK and the Commonwealth, and forms part of the official programme announced by Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee Weekend.

The programme for the day at Stone will be:

2:00pm  The Town Crier will announce a specially written Proclamation in the Market Square heralding the lighting of the beacon later that day.

2:15pm      The Town Mayor will plant a tree at the Amphitheatre at Crown Meadow as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.

9:20pm     Stone Choral Society will perform on the steps of St Michael and St Wulfad’s Church as a prelude to the Beacon lighting.

9:30pm    A prayer will be said for Her Majesty the Queen.

9:35pm    A traditional piper will play Diu Regnare, a unique tune specially written for the occasion.

9:40pm    A bugler will officially announce the lighting of the beacon with a specially written bugle call, entitled Majesty.

9:45pm     The Beacon will be lit by the Town Mayor, and Stone Choral Society will sing Song for the Commonwealth followed by the National Anthem.

Councillor Jill Hood, Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, said: “We are proud to be part of this momentous celebration. It is only appropriate that this unique milestone in history is marked with beacons and music. We are honoured to be part of this special event for Her Majesty the Queen’s 70th year as our Monarch on her Platinum Jubilee, and I hope residents and visitors will join us throughout the day and evening’s events.”
