The Planning Process

Stafford Borough Council as local planning authority, processes and determines the majority of planning applications within the Stafford Borough.

Staffordshire County Council processes and determines planning applications for minerals and waste developments as well as its own developments at schools, on roads and in relation to other county owned buildings.

The role of Town and Parish Councils

Town and parish councils have the right to be informed about planning applications that arise within their town or parish boundaries. They can express whether they approve or object to the proposed developments and make collective observations.

The County and Borough Councils must take into account the observations of parish and town councils when determining the outcomes of planning applications but this does not mean they will necessarily decide an application completely in accordance with the views of the local council. 

The Planning Register

Both Stafford Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council maintain their own planning registers which list all planning applications submitted to them and full details of each development proposal is published.
