Remembrance Sunday on 10 November 2024

The Annual Parade together with Services of Remembrance at the War Memorial in Granville Square and later at the Parish Church of St Michael and St Wulfad took place on Sunday 10 November 2024.

Parade Personnel including veterans and members of ex service organisations were led by the Stone Scout and Guide Band along the High Street to the War Memorial where the Florence Brass Band were playing.  The presentation of wreaths in accordance with the formal Order of Presentation took place before the two minute silence and a Service of Remembrance. 

Florence Brass Band Concert and Burma Star Commemoration on Sunday 17 August 2024

On Sunday 18 August 2024 the people of Stone enjoyed a beautiful Florence Brass Band Concert in Stonefield Park. During a break in the play, a special Burma Star Wreath Laying Commemoration took place for the Burma Star Veterans.  

Classic Car Event on 27 July 2024

Stone Town Council played host to a collection of classic cars on Saturday 27th July 2024. The free display took place in the High Street and Market Square between 11:00am and 3:00pm. 

Local Resident Peter Cresswell of Stone Classic Car Group co-ordinated his friends and colleagues in bringing their cars to Stone. This year’s event included over 60 cars spanning 90 years of motor car development.

In the Market Square there was a display of Ford Cars made since the 1950s. Many family favourites were also on display including the sit up and beg Popular of 1953 and a 2001 Mustang Bullett. There were some vintage pre-war cars too, including an Invicta Black Prince and a Rolls Royce Sedanca DeVille, as well as a Slough built Citroen Doctors Coupe; one of only that 2 exist.

At the ‘High Performance’ end of the spectrum there was a De Tomaso Pantera and a TVR Cerbera alongside a Lancia Delta Integrale of the type that dominated the World Rally Championship in the late 1980s winning 6 Constructors Championships and 4 Drivers Championships.

Civic Sunday on 14 July 2024

On a sunny Sunday morning, the annual Stone Civic Parade, led by the Stone Scout and Guide Band, processed down the High Street,  from the Council Office in Station Road to St Michael & St Wulfad’s Church where Reverend Jim Cartlidge was waiting to lead the Civic Service. 

The Mayor Making Ceremony took place during the service and the new Stone Town Mayor, Councillor Philip Leason MBE JP, was presented with his Chain of Office for the civic year 2024-25.
